"Uncle Charlie". Charles (1846-1914) was the son of Sarah Bigger Chisholm and John Alexander Chisholm (Sr.). He was also the brother of William Bigger Chisholm and John Alexander Chisholm (Jr.). He was also the husband of Christina Kate. Working with his family, Charles developed a machine for shaving wood thin enough for fruit baskets and him and his two brothers (William B. and John) bought the Victoria Brewery in 1874 and converted it into a basket factory. He was a large inventor who developed a lot of machinery for the basket factory and he started the soup factory with his brother John by processing vegetables through evap.oration. They invented devices that can harvest and pod peas,which was very successful, and it was patented first in Germany and later in the United States. |
