Appelbe House |
Description |
This house was located at 29 Navy Street on the south-east corner of King Street and Navy Street. In 1834 John Moore bought the plot of land from William Chisholm and built this house. In 1838 his father-in-law, Barnet Griggs, owned the house and leased it to various tenants before he converted it into a hotel. It was a hotel from 1853 to 1860 and was named the Frontier House. It ceased to be a hotel in 1860 and in 1870 Robert Swanton Appelbe bought the house. This picture is showing the back wing removed which was done by the Appelbes. Robert S. Appelbe is seated on the steps in from of his home. |
